Enrolment (international students)

If you are an international applicant who has received an offer to study in the Melbourne Law Masters program, this page provides you with some important information about enrolling at Melbourne Law School.

1. Accept your offer

Please make sure you accept your offer of enrolment. Information about how to accept your offer will have accompanied your offer letter from the University's International Centre.

Alternatively, you can download the International Students Offer Acceptance Information (.pdf)

2. Choose your subjects

Choosing your subjects is a very important part of your enrolment process. You should have received a copy of the Melbourne Law Masters Handbook and an International Student Subject Nomination Form from the Melbourne Law Masters Office (either with your letter of offer, or separately).

The International student subject nomination form should be completed and returned to the Melbourne Law Masters Office.

If you require assistance in choosing your subjects, please contact the Melbourne Law Masters Office directly.

Important: If you have not received a copy of the Melbourne Law Masters Handbook and a Subject Nomination Form, please contact the Melbourne Law Masters Office.

3. Australian Legal Process and Legal Institutions

The introductory, two day program Australian Legal Process and Legal Institutions is available for all students in the Melbourne Law Masters. International students in particular should consider undertaking this subject - it provides an introduction to the law and the legal system in Australia and can assist you in developing basic legal skills.

4. Fundamentals of the Common Law

Students undertaking a masters degree who do not have a degree from a common law system must complete the subject Fundamentals of the Common Law.

Fundamentals of the Common Law is being held in semesters one and two in 2010, with both semester-long and intensive classes available. It is recommended that international students who are required to undertake this subject do so in their first semester and choose the semester-long class.

5. Orientation

Students are encouraged to take part in the University's Orientation activities when arriving in Melbourne. Orientation will introduce you to campus life, give you the opportunity to meet new people and find out about the many resources and support services available to you.

6. When you arrive in Melbourne

On arrival in Melbourne, please make sure you contact the Melbourne Law Masters Office to arrange a time to see the Program Manager to finalise your enrolment.
